SEO & Digital Marketing Q&A + the Recording from the Cybersecurity Webinar

How often are you caught off guard? By a client, an algorithm update, or simply by life itself? I’m pretty sure that as a business owner (or a campaign manager working with clients, in an agency environment), you get overwhelmed with the amount of work that’s required of you. Things haven’t simplified (I know for sure it’s not just me) - more fields to update, more spreadsheets to fill, more items to order, more policies to update, more updates to more software, etc.

I wish I could help people - that’s part of the reason why you’re receiving this email - I worked with small businesses before and after coming to Canada and noticed their struggles, and I said to myself: Self, why don’t you build a place where they can get as much information as they can/need/want on how to efficiently run and GROW their business?

It’s hard for me to say no (that’s probably a conversation I should have with my therapist) even if you ask me questions about accounting and bookkeeping - I’ll try to find someone who could answer that (and that’s what I have done so far in my webinars - not accounting yet, but branding, customer service, cybersecurity, coaching, assessments, storytelling, confidence, link building, content strategy) - and it’s been a year almost. What a great journey.

There is a topic where I am confident in answering most questions - SEO and Digital Marketing. And since I’ve been getting so many questions for the past years in my inbox, I’ve put together a list of the top most common questions any business owner (or campaign manager helping business owners grow their businesses) should know about digital marketing and SEO in the A.I. - generative/apocalyptic era.

This will be a solo* episode, which I hope you will join in this new short webinar format that I’ll try to implement (20 to 30 minutes, each last Thursday of each month, live on howaboutsomemarketing.com). Still powered by Sessions.

And you? Hit reply and tell me what you are good at so that you can easily host a 20-minute Q&A on that topic.

I usually divide this email into multiple parts, promoting the upcoming webinar while sharing the previous session. But given that’s one of the most important topics covered, I’ll share some more insights from our previous session - Cybersecurity for your business. Here are some highlights and the slides from the session.

The first line of defence is following cybersecurity best practices:

  • Implement strong, unique password policies and multifactor authentication
  • Secure your WiFi network
  • Install and update antivirus/antimalware software
  • Back up data regularly and store it offsite
  • Create an incident response plan for cyberattacks

These fundamental measures will thwart many common threats like phishing emails and malware. They also limit damage if a breach still occurs by keeping data safeguarded.

The recording, full show notes and everything else are on our site.

*Nope, I did not get overwhelmed with work (like you did). I am on top of my things, and things never go sideways for me. 😛

For the song of the day, I choose this - from Brazil; with love, I suppose.

How to speed up site migrations with AI-powered redirect mapping

For anyone working in SEO (but not limited to business owners who might have some interest in this) Mark Williams-Cook (whose Course on Udemy I haven’t yet started) put together a great guide on how to leverage AI and speed up the process. I haven’t used his framework yet but definitely seems to be saving some time.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai on AI-powered search and the future of the web

Many say the SEO apocalypse is here. This is a sensitive topic - SEO apocalypse has been happening for the past 20 years; here are my unsolicited 2 cents - we already see so much organic real estate going to paid traffic - with the generative results, we will see even less (If you want to learn more about what to do in terms of SEO in the generative AI age, ensure you join the next webinar). But most definitely, it's an interview worth watching.

I’ve been working on How About Some Marketing?’s website (in case you didn’t see) - not it has an ok homepage, with a clear statement of who we are and what we’re doing, a few highlights and an optimized newsletter landing page (that you can share with your network). The above article shares a few best practices for getting the most out of such a signup form.

Many years ago, when I started blogging, I read a newsletter that said something like, "Never say something like sorry I haven't written for X many days... I've been busy with Y and Z" even if you were absent for a longer period of time. So... I'm not saying anything. I've drafted many newsletters in my mind (no pun intended regarding the subject line of this email), and although some were timely, I've settled on this one today. We've all seen the memes about the Turkish shooter from the...

We had a great panel discussion on July 11 on the topic of AI and how you can use it for SEO and digital marketing (but it’s not just about that, is it now? Be honest; have you ever asked ChatGPT what to cook for dinner* or to tell you what exercise to do at the gym today? - I did). Joachim, Kevin and Amin, three digital marketing experts, shared powerful insights on how they use AI (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude et. CO) and how can YOU, as a business owner or as someone who’s working...
